COMPLIANCE TRAINING

Compliance training is vital to any large organization, and small ones as well.  More regulations require more auditors and this leads to more training for the employee.  This also leads to poor morale and frustration with what the employees feel is wasted time and boring click-throughs.  Have you heard this before? "Just throw something up so we can run a report and show that everyone is compliant."  Well, it doesn't have to be that way.  Fun, engaging courses do, in fact, exist and I am someone who develops them. When I tell folks I develop compliance courses, I usually get an eye roll. Then I tell them that I only make the good ones.

What makes a compliance course fun, engaging that hits the mark with regards to knowledge retention?  That's it - fun and engaging!  Games, the ability to test out, interactivity, immersive learning....these all provde motivation, fun and place the learner in a comfortable learning environment for which they can learn, and retain that knowledge.  So a simple way to look at it is; if they enjoy it, they will learn it.

The techniques I utilize when developing compliance courses include the use of avatars, embedded mini-games and name recognition.  I also like to provide "rewards".  Some examples include allowing the learner to earn an extra try on the final exam for successfully completing a challenge. Or, accumulating enough points to earn a crack at a final exam with fewer questions.  These incentives are proven successful as feedback surveys have concluded.

The click-through Safety Essentials demo on the Adaptive Learning page is an example of an engaging compliance course, so check that out if you haven't already.
